Episode 4- Inconsistencies

After listening to Jay's various versions of what happened on the night of January 13th, do you think he is lying? If so, why would he lie? What could he be covering up? Could he be telling a partial truth? At this point, do you believe that Adnan killed Hae Min Lee? Why or why not?

Please respond with a full paragraph answer (8-10 sentences) and comment on at least 2 other posts.

  2. It mentions in episode four it mentions how Jen knew that Hae was killed by strangiliation. She also knew where hae's car was. I feel as if Jay would have to have been there because how would jen know all this information. Whether Adnon did it or whoever did it i feel jay was there or definetly knows something about haes murder. I feel there is too much information and detailed information that many people know about and it wasn't fully investigated. What i mean by that is like if people know this much information about hae it should have been more looked into. I feel as if something is up because i wonder and wonder why they didn't check under haes nails and DNA on her body.

    1. It is weird how they know that Hae was killed by strangulation if they weren't really involved in the crime.

    2. There is 100% something wrong with this case. It´s just so sketchy and so much doesn't add up like why they wont further investigate and see if they find any DNA on Hae´s body. I also believe Jay is hiding something because the fact that he knew where her car was doesn´t add up and its weird that the cops didnt notice something weird about that.

    3. exactly, how they know so much when they weren't "involved" in the killing, and he told Jen all this information, but kept changing his story with the detectives

  3. I think Jay is lying because his stories don´t add up. A lot of the information Jay shared with the detectives didn´t make sense, for example when he told the cops where Hae´s car was. How would he even know where the car was if he claims that all he did was drop Adnan off and pick him back up. Each time he tells his story some things shift. In the first taped interview Jay said Adnan only told him the day of that he was going to kill hae then two weeks later when asked again Jay said Adnan has been talking about killing Hae for days prior to her murder. I think maybe Jay was jealous of Adnan´s relationship with his girlfriend and thats why he turned on him.

    1. I agree with the first sentence, episode one he said he was with adnan when he was going to commit the murder, now he said that he just knew that the Hae's body was in Adnan's car

  4. I think Jay is lying because he just has mixed up stories that don't fully add up together. Since the beginning, Jay's stories seemed off. Thinking about it, it was either Jay who did it or Jay definitely had something to do with it and is simply blaming Adnan to cover up his and others’ trace. Turns out Adnan and Jay's girlfriend were close but that's the only connection between jay and adnan. I feel like jealousy and another crime was involved in this somehow. When at court, they ask jay why he didn't call the police as soon as he knew about it and he continues to bring up the fact that he didn't want to be “ratted out” on selling “drugs”. Inconsistency - where he picked up Adnan. Jay keeps changing his story and i don't understand why the police didn't think too much about this and still arrested Adnan.

    2. Jay is definitely hiding something because every time he goes to talk to the cops details about his story always seem to be changing.

    3. yeah, I agree jay's too suspicious to trust

  5. I think Jay is lying because there are a lot of inconsistencies in his story that are hard to understand like the fact where he picked up Adnan, in one tape he says one thing while in the second tape it’s a whole different location but the bigger of all his Inconsistencies is where Adnan shows him Hae’s body this one is reaaly hard to understand because that moement is so important that it’s hard to believe that someone would forget where he say a body of a dead person. We also learn that Jay and Adnan knew each other but that they wouldn’t call each other best friends. So if they weren’t that close why would Adnan trust him and tell him about the crime. Although Adnan wasn’t so close to Jay he was close to Jay’s girlfriend, stephanie who was Adnan’s friend and that could be somethings that is driving Jay into doing this to Adnan. The fact that Hae was killed and is true but i’m not entirely sure that the culprit is Adnan. And i don’t think Jay is telling the truth. He might be covering for someone or he knows something else but can’t say, or he is simply shaping the truth to his benifit.

    1. I agree with you when you said ''We also learn that Jay and Adnan knew each other but that they wouldn’t call each other best friends'' because as I said in my post, why would Jay say that the body was in the trunk in Adnan's car

  6. Jay was changing his version multiple times, so it is unpredictable to find out if he is lying. But the way he is talking in this episode is making me think that he wants to cover himself, because if we noticed in episode one, Jay said that he was going to bring Adnan wherever he was going to kill Hae, but now he is saying that he knew that the body was in Adnan’s car. With Jay’s testimonies on this episode, we can easily say that it was Adnan who killed Hae. However, Jay is making the case more complicated because of the new versions he is talking about. Jay is hiding something because as we can see, Adnan hasn’t changed his testimony at all.

  7. I never trusted Jay, and always felt like his story was inconsistent. I do think he is lying because he keeps changing his story which makes it hard to trust him. if he and Adnan weren't close how is it possible that jay knows so much. he's making it more complicated then it has to be, why are there so many changes ? you don't forget where you were when you see a dead body. That's a whole lie, I think he could be involved in this murder, or even be the murderer. He is the only person that knows so much so why is it so hard to tell the truth? at this point, I don't think Adnan killed Hae but I don't think he's innocent, neither is Jay.

  8. I think Jay killed Hae, because in his story to the cop he kept telling different story each time. I feel like Jay was the one who killed Hae or he was a part of the murder. Why would Adan trusted jay with apart of the murder if they weren't even that close, how jay knew so much details about hae murder? I believe that jay is trying to cover his back and try to put everything on adnan so he would get less attention. I think Jay has planned this with a lot of people for a while, because he has something to the cop every time they ask him something even some of them doesn't even make seance to the crime. I still dont think adnan killed Hae because jay story doesn't make any sense.

Episode 5 - Route Talk

Route Talk- Based on Sarah's experiment, cell tower information,  and Adnan's story, does the state's timeline for murder seem possible? Does Sarah's "test run" seem realistic to commit a murder? Imagine you are the detective in this case and answer this question: To what degree does Sarah's experiment corroborate Jay's story? Is it truthful enough to convict Adnan, is it so impossible that you have to throw out Jay's testimony, or is it somewhere in the middle? Explain your decision. Episode 7- The Opposite of the Prosecution

In Sarah's discussion with Deirdre (the lawyer from the innocence project), Deidre states that innocent clients are the least helpful because they don't know what to say, and that the case against Adnan is "very thin" (meaning that there isn't a strong case against him).  Explain Deidre's ideas about Adnan's case and whether you agree with her ideas or not. Also, why isn't Don a suspect?  Please respond with at least one paragraph and comment on at least two posts.  All posts and responses are due by Monday, 12.16 @ 8am.
